Dear Friends

Thank you for your recent participation in  our Zeeland Recreation My Kids Taekwondo Program, or simply your request for information on programs available through New Heights Taekwondo.

This letter is to make you aware of the various options available to you at our school.

Three Questions to answer concerning a Martial Arts School.

Consistent: Does the school consistently offer its services year to year? Does the school have a history of moving locations, changing curriculum, or changing Instructors?

Consistent: We have been in our current location in Zeeland since June 1, 1991. Our Senior Instructor today is the same individual who has been instructing since that time. Our style is still Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do. While some schools will change styles and programs as new trends appear, and disappear, New Heights has chosen to stay with the oldest, tested and true style of Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do. Our requirement structure is built upon our core curriculum of Chung Do Kwan Tae Kwon Do.

Certifiable: Does the school offer a program which is certified by a recognized organization, offering ranking certificates that are recognized both nationally and internationally. In other words, “who certifies that this student has earned their rank”?

Certifiable:  All students within our Soaring Eagles and Chung Do Kwan programs receive their ranking certification through the United States Chung Do Kwan Association. The oldest, and largest Tae Kwon Do Association in the United States with direct linkage to the World Chung Do Kwan Association in Seoul, South Korea. Our Senior Instructor is a certified Chief Master Instructor through the USCDKA representing over 38 years of training and instructing experience.

Convertible: Does the school make it possible for individuals with previous training in other styles to easily convert to the programs being offered.

Convertible: Our Instructors are trained, and willing to work with any student with previous training, regardless of style, to adjust within our curriculum. Students are permitted to retain any previous ranking they may have received provided they can show documentation for that rank.

What programs are available through New Heights?

Zeeland Recreation:

We offer short term (6 week) programs in cooperation with the Zeeland Recreation Department of Zeeland Public Schools. These classes are offered September through May. These classes have been very helpful for those individuals wanting to “try out” a program before enrolling in a regular program. (Most of our students have participated in 1 or more sessions through Zeeland Rec)

Typical Fees through Zeeland Recreation

My Kids Taekwondo:         $38. (Residents)  $50. (Non Residents)  Age 4-7

New Heights Programs

We offer 3 different programs for 3 different age ranges that are ongoing programs. Students within these programs wear uniforms, belts, and earn ranking within the programs. These programs run all year long and provide students the opportunity to work their way through the ranks to the Black Belt rank levels.

I realize the main thought of all is the cost for these services. Following is a breakdown of the costs involved in our ongoing My Kids program. This information is followed with more detailed information on the program. If all your doing is shopping by price, we invite you to come visit us and see what we are all about. We have been offering our children’s classes longer than any other school in the area.

Costs:

Within each program we offer discounts for additional family memberships. To be eligible for these discounts, all members must reside at the same family residence.

All of our programs are on a month to month basis. We do not utilize contracts.

If a family wishes to enroll more than one family member in more than one program, we charge the fee for the first student and then the fee of the second, and so on. Example: First student cost is $65.00, second student cost is $52.00, for a total cost of $117.00 per month.  There is a one-time $20.00 registration fee for the first member in any enrollment.

For individuals looking to commit to a longer time frame rather than month to month, we offer a 10% discount for a 6 month commitment and a 15% discount for a 12 month commitment. This must be paid in advance and is non refundable.

Other Costs:

As with any program, there other costs that will occur. Following are typical costs of required materials. These are generally a one-time expense.

Additional Program Information

My Kids Taekwondo (5-7 years old) – The My Kids Taekwondo Program offers a progressive incremental curriculum that challenges students while rewarding their accomplishments. Many of the same concepts you are teaching your child at home will be consistently reinforced through classroom discussions in your child’s program. Topics such as: attitude, abilities, good vs. bad, respect for one’s self and others, following directions the first time and more are taught. This system is designed to prepare your little one and have him/her start to see the reality of his/her actions. It will also promote your child through our ranking system and have them ready to join a traditional Martial Arts training program at age 8. Following are guidelines followed by our My Kids Taekwondo program.

Attendance/Promotion: Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes in order to be promoted in quarterly promotions. Students are required to attend a minimum of 8 classes during each cycle to obtain rank. (Our class schedule permits 12 classes available between testings).

Vacations: Our classes run all year long and we realize that students do take vacations from time to time. Our class fees are based on available classes per month. Each student has the option to attend, or miss classes; however, we do not offer discounts or credit for classes missed.

Breaks in training time: From time to time, members will elect to take time off (a month or more) from training. Class fees will be suspended during this time provided student notifies us prior to taking time off. It should be noted that as long as a student remains active, we historically have never raised their rates. If, while a student is inactive our rates change, that student will need to pay the new rates upon returning.

Holidays: If a national holiday falls on a scheduled class night, classes will not be held. These holidays typically are New Years Eve/Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Weather Policy: New Heights follows the Zeeland Public Schools/Recreation Department weather policies. If school/Zeeland Rec activities are cancelled due to weather, our classes will be cancelled. We will make this information available on our website and email will be sent to all members informing them of this event

Uniforms: Students are required to have a studio approved full white traditional Tae Kwon Do uniform. Students are permitted to wear a school approved T‐shirt in place of the traditional top. Full uniforms are required for all testings and special school events. (Students will be informed) See C/M R. Jipping for purchasing uniform information.

Protective Gear: All students must purchase and bring to class approved protective gear to consist of hand pads, foot pads, head gear, and mouth guard. Our school will help you size your student prior to ordering to ensure you get the best deals and correct sizes. Students will not be allowed to spar with other students until this equipment is obtained. We recommend all students have this equipment within one month of beginning training.

Fees: Monthly class fees are due the first of the month. We accept cash, checks, and credit cards. We also have, and encourage, our automatic payment option. This is where your credit card will be automatically charged each month on the first of the month. *This is our preferred method.

Visitors/Spectators: We welcome family members and friends to observe our classes. We do ask that if you have small children with you that they are kept quiet and off the training area. We also ask that all cell phones either be turned off or silenced and any calls be taken in the hallway or outside. We also encourage members to invite friends from time to time. Please let us know if you will be bringing a friend to try out a class. The same individuals should not be taken to class more than 2 times.
